The New Market & Head House Conservancy was created to restore and preserve the historic Head House and Shambles in Philadelphia. These landmarks, including the iconic Isaiah Lukens clock and the Head House cupola, are in urgent need of repair after years of deterioration. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966, the Head House has served as a market, firehouse, office, and gathering space for centuries. The Conservancy aims to revitalize this historic space, bringing energy and activity back to the area. With restoration costs estimated at $1.5 million, your tax-deductible donations can help ensure the future of this important piece of history.
The $1.5 million provided by the City of Philadelphia enables the Conservancy to complete all the essential renovation work to the Head House and Shambles. But there is more we can do to make this historic landmark the vibrant centerpiece for our historic neighborhood. Your donations can support even more durable repairs to the cupola, more masonry repointing, a new clockface, updated informational signs, and facade lighting.
