Help Save Historic Head House
Square & New Market
Our History is the History of America.
The New Market & Head House Conservancy was created to restore and preserve the historic Head House and Shambles in Philadelphia.
- Historic Significance: Head House Square, dating back to 1804, is home to the nation’s oldest surviving firehouse and a designated National Historic Landmark since 1966.
- Cultural Legacy: The area has been part of our city’s rich story since the start, with visitors as notable as George Washington.
- Urgent Restoration: Key elements like the Isaiah Lukens clock, the cupola, and the iconic Shambles are in urgent need of repair, with the total restoration estimated at $1.5 million.
- Community Revitalization: The project not only aims to restore these historic landmarks but also to modernize public spaces, creating a vibrant community hub for commerce and social gatherings.
- Engagement & Preservation: Through education, community involvement, and historic preservation, the Conservancy seeks to protect the legacy of Head House Square and New Market for future generations.
